High Point Men's Lacrosse Coach to Donate $1000 to Breast Cancer Research
By Jennifer Pascale

Pink is becoming the new black.

All across America, people are thinking pink. On March 22nd, High Point University is hosting their first ever Men's Lacrosse tailgate festival. This game is also known as their "Pink Game" so the pre-game tailgate is to raise awareness for Breast Cancer Education.

Becca Hemby, an intern with the HPU Athletic Department said, "We anticipate this event to be one of our biggest and most successful of the year."

More importantly, representatives from the Kay Yow Foundation will be present at the event.

The Kay Yow Foundation was created and founded under the name of the North Carolina State head women's basketball coach, Kay Yow.

Yow was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 and fought for years, but she filled these years giving back and joining forces with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and the V Foundation for Cancer Research to create the Kay Yow Foundation and help find a cure.

"...Kay felt as if coaches not only shared a profession but a community," according to the Kay Yow Foundation website. "Her battle was fought in the public arena with the hope of inspiring others to make a difference in a fight that impacts each and every one of us."

Since the fund has been founded, efforts have raised $8 million and $3.8 has been granted back for scientific research and programs focused no women's cancer.

"When life kicks you, let it kick you forward." said Yow.

In hopes to bring fans into the game for a good cause, Coach Torpey, the Men's Lacrosse coach has announced that if they reach a record breaking 2,000 fans, he will donate $1000 to the Kay Yow Foundation under High Point University's name.

The tailgate will include tons of food from local eateries such Barberito's, Gianno's, and a cookout. The school is supplying bounce houses, a slip and slide, corn hole, giant Jenga, and a DJ. There will be athletic gear give-aways and chances to win other cool prizes.

It is anticipated to be a day of fun, but also a day to support people who are effected by breast cancer.
