Today Is Where Your Book Begins

-the rest is still unwritten

Making a change in your life can be challenging. Introducing yourself to a new world is exciting, yet scary at the same time. Jennifer Pascale found this out first hand when she made her move from Pennsylvania to North Carolina.

Growing up, Pascale lived in the same neighborhood, in the same town until she graduated high school. All of her friends were either staying close to home or going to schools together. She never thought she would go to college far from home, let alone 9 hours away.

"I was at a college fair to get some more information about schools nearby and it just so happened that High Point University had a table set up. As I was walking by, I couldn't help but pick up a pamphlet. It looked so beautiful."

Pascale's parents were skeptical at first, but finally gave in and allowed her to visit the campus. As they pulled up to campus, Pascale was immediately greeted by a friendly face and directed towards Wrenn Hall.

"The buildings were immaculate." said Pascale. "There was a sense of life in the fountains and through the classical music."

As part of her tour, Pascale listened to Dr. Nido Qubein speak about the school and his aspirations and successes. She was more than impressed and couldn't believe how far this school had come. Nido explained to the eager students and parents that everything on this campus is there for a reason.

"We want to set you up for a successful future. This environment is meant to shape you into a more well-rounded human being." Dr. Qubein said.

Pascale was sold. She applied early decision and awaited the arrival of her acceptance letter. In late November, the huge Congratulations! packet was in her hands. Not only was she accepted into the University, but was also asked to be a member of the Media Entertainment Fellows Program. Deciding to accept was a no brainer.

"There was a Facebook group made for the Class of 2016, so by the time I got to school, I already had made so many friends." said Pascale. "It was nice to put a face to a name."

For Pascale, the first couple months were hard. Being so far away from home with a brand new set of friends was different. As the weeks went by, home didn't seem so out of touch. Pascale talked to family and friends through phone calls and FaceTime.

"I thought it was going to be hard to keep in touch, but I talk to my family and friends almost everyday."

Pascale is now a sophomore at HPU and has not looked back since.

"I felt a rush of adrenaline when I stepped onto campus," said Pascale. "It was everything I had been looking for and I couldn't imagine myself going anywhere else."
