Blue Rock Pizza & Tap

Craving a good slice of pizza? Or just a beer with some friends? Hop in the car and get on over to Blue Rock Pizza & Tap. Opening in August of 2012, Blue Rock has become a big hit in Uptown High Point. Taking a twist on classic pizzas and beer, they created their own modern style. The atmosphere of the restaurant has a upbeat theme of Rock N Roll. Along the booth, various vinyls throughout the years are hung on display. They have guitars covering the walls and old Rock N Roll paraphernalia scattered around.
Blue Rock Pizza Dining Area
Blue Rock allows their customers to create they perfect pizza with over 30 toppings, 10 cheeses, and 5 base sauces or you can choose one of the "headliner" specialty pizzas that have already been pre-created. For those gluten-free folks, their are options for you as well! Not only do they have pizzas, but their menu also includes sandwiches, salads and great appetizers. Their menu is split up to match the theme. It starts with opening acts (appetizers) and is followed by first set (salads), second set (sandwiches), solo acts ("create your own" pizza), headliners (specialty pizzas) and encore (desserts).

At Blue Rock, they are also known for their 20+ crafted beers, many of which are dedicated to local North Carolina brews. Along with those, they offer over 50 bottled beers for those people who enjoy the more familiar taste.
I have personally been to the restaurant a few times now and haven't had a bad visit. The pizzas are astounding, and I cannot attest to the flavoring of the beer for the fact that I am not 21 yet, but some of my friends have told me that it is very tasty! My favorite pizza is the Ball of Confusion which includes red curry sauce, chicken, pineapple, scallions, chiles, cilantro, fontina cheese, and crushed peanut. The recipes they come up with are out of this world!

Southern Roots Restaurant & Catering

Over the weekend, I discovered a hidden treasure. Southern Roots Restaurant & Catering, a restaurant located in downtown Jamestown, focuses their dishes on southern classics with a twist of their own. It is locally owned and are big supporters of their local farmers and sustainable agriculture. This type of restaurant is laid back, yet classy at the same time.
Southern Roots Restaurant & Catering
You can go as you are, or get dressed up if you'd like. I liked the relaxed atmosphere. The style was abstract, but somehow the different wallpapers, furniture, artworks, and decorations pulled the place together perfectly.
Southern Roots-Dining Room
There is a large variety of different cuisines. Their menu doesn't have a strict theme so finding something you like is a breeze.

Their appetizers include different dips and finger foods. I recently just tried their Warm Gouda Pimento Cheese and it was amazing. You could tell it was made fresh. They have a lunch and dinner menu with seasonal changes and tweaks. Their menus include various salads, soups, sandwiches, pizzas, seafood and meat entrees, and a kids menu. I got the Grilled Chicken Fettucini and it was delicious. The parmesan cheese sauce was warmed to perfection and the chicken and pasta tasted amazing. Next time, I'm going to try the pizza. Im a huge pizza fan and the Beachin' It pizza sounds to die for. It isn't listed on their online menu but its included on their dine-in menu. It it a tangy twist on the regular pie.
The service was great and although it was crowded, we didn't have to wait very long. During the warmer months, they have a beautiful outdoor seating arrangement with white lights in the trees and a cozy fireplace. Overall, I give Southern Roots a big thumbs up! It is great for a casual dinner or something more. I would highly recommend it!
